WHERE HEROES ARE BORN

Berliner Synchron is the origin of professional dubbing in Germany. Founded in 1949, the company continues to hold a leading position within the industry. More than 8,000 films and a wide range of serial formats have since received a German language version here. They include masterpieces such as “The Godfather”, “Star Wars 1-6”, “Ice Age 1-5”, “Inglorious Basterds”, “Cloud Atlas”, “Jurassic World”, “Breaking Bad”, “Fargo”, “Mr. Robot”, the Marvel films and many, many more.

With a branch office in Munich, its post-production subsidiaries Edition M and No Limits Media and its recent integration into the film marketing group S&L Medien Gruppe, Berliner Synchron now offers individualized and highly professional all-in-one services that meet up to the most ambitious time tables - without any compromise on quality.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

In 1929, the "Filmkurier" wrote about the first-time dubbed Hollywood film: “It´s a miracle – They all speak German”. In the early days and due to technical deficiencies, this miracle could not quite convince the German public. But today, German dubbed versions belong to the best in the world – which can be largely attributed to one man: Wenzel Lüdecke. After World War II, he was the first to be given the authorization by the occupying powers to dub English and American films into German. He began what would become his lifetime achievement, with a handful of employees and premises in Berlin Lankwitz. Due to his experience in film production, professional technology, and renowned German actors he started to give international films their German voice.

THE NEXT BIG SOUND: TRADITION MEETS INNOVATION

Much time has passed since “Arsenic and Old Lace”, “High Noon”, and “The Count of Monte Cristo” and the requirements in the media industry are ever-changing. Images are becoming sharper and sound is changing as well: from stereo to surround sound to IMAX and Dolby Atmos. These technical innovations bring great progress and impact on workflows which are becoming increasingly digital. Today, convergence and efficiency are most essential.

CREATIVE. EFFICIENT. DIGITAL.

Berliner Synchron perceives changes as an opportunity and actively shapes the industry transformation. Following the acquisition by S&L Medien Gruppe, the company has left the birthplace of German dubbing in Berlin Lankwitz and has moved to the EUREF Campus in Berlin Schöneberg. In addition to benefiting from the new location’s excellent transport connections and innovative and ecological atmosphere, Berliner Synchron now puts an emphasis on state-of-the-art studio equipment and digital production processes - with the same passion for language and sound and great respect for the original.

Philosophy

LOOP BY LOOP

Film editors, sound engineers, voice actors, dubbing directors, authors, translators - each of them capture the character of the original in their own way. Loop by loop. Together, they create a new work of art which retains the power of the original creation in another language and allows viewers to be a part of the creative claim of Berliner Synchron GmbH:
FEEL THE ORIGINAL. SINCE 1949.
